Job Description:

This internship is designed exclusively for UoD graduates that have graduated within the last 2 years. You will be working to improve graduate engagement and outcomes whilst being supported to develop the skills and experience you need to go forward and succeed in your future career.

As a Project Development intern, you will be part of the Careers and Employment Service team and work closely with Marketing and Alumni, Colleges and Registry. Within your role, you will work with key stakeholders to design, plan and implement the Derby Internship Network. You will focus attention on marketing and communication tactics to increase student and graduate engagement across the University, develop robust processes to develop interns and support the recruitment and induction of interns with the Student Employment Agency.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Work closely with colleges and departments to create, identify and develop internship opportunities.

2. Promote the Derby Internship Network with internal and external stakeholders; devising and delivering campaigns and events to engage recent graduates with the Derby Internship Network and finalist specific activities.

3. Provided application support to graduates applying for opportunities via the Derby Internship Network.

4. Create a development support network for enrolled interns to increase their development and outcomes; partnering with the People Development team and establishing mentoring, peer support and networking opportunities.

5. Monitor and report on experiences and engagement for recruitment, retention, development and career progression of interns.

6. Provide administrative support for the Employer Engagement Team within the Careers and Employment Service.

7. Provide support to employers (from SMEs to FTSE 100 companies) to assist with their recruitment activities.

8. Work as a team with the Derby Interns to deliver projects to benefit graduate success.

9. Record keeping and report writing.

10. Engage with the formal processes for tracking and reporting

11. Work collaboratively with all areas of the University to ensure the best response to graduates and finalists.

12. Ensure an inclusive service with a focus on delivering excellence.

13. Escalate issues or concerns to key stakeholders.

14. Maintain your professional competence through continuous professional development in line with role.
Essential Criteria


· Honours degree or equivalent.

· Applicants must be recent graduates of the University of Derby who have graduated from UoD within the last two years.


· Experience of project management.

· Experience of working in an administrative role.

· Experience of using various social media platforms.

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate effectively with recent graduates and current students.

· Contributing to the development of innovative solutions to problems, addressing the root cause.

· Working collaboratively across boundaries to achieve common goals.

· Experience of understanding and applying data protection requirements.

· Experience of using data to manage workload.

· Experience of delivering information in a creative and engaging way.

Skills, knowledge & abilities

· Appreciation of engagement/business and people development roles.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide range of contacts both internal and external to the University.

· Good judgement of situations and people and the ability to respond appropriately.

· Ability to take a professional approach and work on own initiative.

· Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work across teams building relationships to ensure a good result.

· Ability to understand and apply regulations/rules e.g. GDPR, quality assurance frameworks.

· Confident and able to demonstrate digital competency across a range of technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.

· Systematic and organised to manage competing priorities.

· Excellent ability to retrieve, manage and analyse data, identifying themes and patterns, making pragmatic recommendations for action, where required.

· Ability to clearly present and articulate information verbally, as well as in writing to a range of audiences

· Up to date knowledge of current issues affecting Student Engagement within HE.

Business requirements

· Able to recognise the need and be willing to work outside of normal hours at times as relevant to achieving service delivery, targets and deadlines.

· Able to recognise the need and be willing to travel and work at any of the University sites as relevant to support staff, attend events, meetings or for presence.

Desirable Criteria


· Educated to degree level standard or equivalent work-based experience.

Working Hours and Length of Contract:
To start w/c 20/06/2022 (6 month contract) 
37 hours per week - Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs - 7.5 hours and Friday - 7 hours
(You will be expected to work on site as instructed per government guidelines)

Rate of Pay:
Level 3 - £9.50 per hour
