This internship is designed exclusively for UoD graduates that have graduated within the last 2 years. You will be working to improve graduate engagement and outcomes whilst being supported to develop the skills and experience you need to go forward and succeed in your future career.

As a Graduate Marketing and Communications intern, you will be part of the Centre for Student Life team and work closely with Marketing and Alumni, Colleges and Registry. Within your role, you will work with key stakeholders to design, plan and implement marketing and communication tactics to increase student and graduate engagement across the University.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Work closely with careers, marketing, communications and alumni teams to identify recent graduates and existing students to profile and create case studies.

2. Work closely with colleges and departments to create case studies and campaign plans to increase awareness and engagement of alumni and career opportunities.

3. Contribute to the development of alumni engagements and communication strategies to promote the 3-year Careers and Employment Service promise.

4. Support events, engaging in the planning process as part of the events group through to attending events to represent relevant services.

5. Liaise and communicate effectively with students and recent graduates to raise awareness of services available to them, to increase their engagement and outcomes upon graduation.

6. Assist in the development, planning, delivery, and evaluation of specific initiatives, such as Finalist Futures week, to facilitate and support increased engagement in addition to raising awareness amongst students/recent graduates of wider support available.

7. Within the context of wider University communication schedules, support colleagues in implementing a ‘keeping warm’ communications strategy for students.

8. Devise campaigns to engage students with the skills programme and finalist specific activities.

9. Monitor and report on responses and engagement levels for activities and specific campaigns/data collection activity,

10. Record keeping and report writing.

11. Maintain records of interactions with students.

12. Produce data reports and analysis using available monitoring and evaluation data relevant to contacts with students, interventions and outcomes.

13. Engage with the formal processes for tracking and reporting student reasons for leaving.

14. Work collaboratively with all areas of the University to ensure the best response to students.

15. Ensure an inclusive service with a focus on delivering excellence.

16. Escalate issues or concerns to key stakeholders.

17. Maintain your professional competence through continuous professional development in line with role.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

· Honours degree or equivalent.

· Applicants must be recent graduates of the University of Derby who have graduated from UoD within the last two years.

Experience

· Experience of campaign planning, and an understanding of key marketing principals to increase engagement and outcomes of students.

· Experience of working in an administrative role.

· Experience of working in a creative role.

· Experience of using various social media platforms.

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate effectively with recent graduates and current students.

· Contributing to the development of innovative solutions to problems, addressing the root cause.

· Working collaboratively across boundaries to achieve common goals.

· Experience of understanding and applying data protection requirements.

· Experience of using data to manage workload.

· Experience of delivering information in a creative and engaging way.

Skills, knowledge & abilities

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide range of contacts both internal and external to the University.

· Good judgement of situations and people and the ability to respond appropriately.

· Ability to take a professional approach and work on own initiative.

· Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work across teams building relationships to ensure a good result.

· Ability to understand and apply regulations/rules e.g. GDPR, quality assurance frameworks.

· Confident and able to demonstrate digital competency across a range of technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.

· Systematic and organised to manage competing priorities.

· Excellent ability to retrieve, manage and analyse data, identifying themes and patterns, making pragmatic recommendations for action, where required.

· Ability to clearly present and articulate information verbally, as well as in writing to a range of audiences

· Up to date knowledge of current issues affecting Student Engagement within HE.

Business requirements

· Able to recognise the need and be willing to work outside of normal hours at times as relevant to achieving service delivery, targets and deadlines.

· Able to recognise the need and be willing to travel and work at any of the University sites as relevant to support staff, attend events, meetings or for presence.

· Educated to degree level standard or equivalent work-based experience

Working Hours and Length of Contract:
 
To start : w/c 20th June 2022 
Ending : Mid December (6 month contract) 
 
37 hours per week - Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs - 7.5 hours and Friday - 7 hours
(You will be expected to work on site as instructed per government guidelines)

Rate of Pay:
 
Level 3 - £9.50 per hour
