Job Description

The University of Derby has received funding from the Office for Students to conduct a project into “Inducing Empathic Equality through Gamification”. Over a two-year period, this project aims to improve the experiences of Black and other Ethnic Minority (BAME) students on NHS placements by inducing empathy for their experiences in white students, academics, and NHS placement staff using gamed-based learning based upon BAME student experiences.

This will then improve placement experiences, outcomes and first-time pass rates, improve degree outcomes and reduce the awarding gap. By working with NHS and industry partners, we aim to provide an innovative approach to tackling these challenging issues.

The postholders will:

1. Support the structured interviewing of BAME students regarding their placement experiences

2. Liaise with industry partners in the production and development of the game-based intervention

3. Support in the experimental evaluation of the intervention with multiple groups

4. Collaborate on the research and sector dissemination, including supporting the production of research articles and a showcase event
