Job Description

The Sport & Activity team wish to recruit several enthusiastic and passionate sports loving individuals to support the marketing and delivery of our Participation sport programme and activities (UoD Active) and Uni of Derby Performance Sport (BUCS, Sport Scholars).

This is a fantastic opportunity for students looking to work within sport development, performance sport, marketing and/or events and gain valuable, real sector experience.

As a Sports Assistant you will be responsible for supporting key elements of UoD Active – specifically the effective delivery of our weekly sports activities programme, football leagues and sport events, and providing marketing and comms support for these to help drive engagement and increase student participation – and for providing day-to day support of Performance Sport delivery.

The role requires flexibility, excellent planning and organisational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills together with demonstrable experience of media /marketing content creation and an active involvement in sports participation.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
1. Provision of administrative support to Sport & Activity department
2. Helping plan, lead and deliver Participation Sport activities and events
3. Supporting with day-to-day Performance Sport activities/admin
4. Support with collection of reporting data and participant feedback
5. Creation of engaging marketing content (e.g. posts, articles, blogs, video highlights/reels, written content for emails/e-news/website to promote our athlete/participant successes, engagement and athlete recruitment 6. UoD Active app activities administration and coordination (mobile app and web platform)

Candidate and Skills Requirements

1. Experience of planning, promoting and organising sports activities, projects and/or events
2. Marketing and comms content creation for a range of media platforms
3. An interest in engaging others in being active at university.
4. An understanding and experience of recreational sport participation
5. Problem solving and using initiative.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Excellent planning and organisational skills
8. Excellent time management
9. Ability to work independently
 
Other Information
Pay Rate: £12.37 per hour
Working Hours: Flexible hours – up to 6-8 per week
Length of Contract: 1st Sept to 19th December 2025 – with potential to extend contract until May 2026
Start Date: Monday 1st Sept - TBC (or sooner if RTW checks completed/verified beforehand)
