As a Digital Learning Assistant, you will support the design, development, and assurance of high-quality digital learning experiences across our digital learning ecosystem.
 
Working with the Digital Learning team and academic colleagues, you will help enhance the use of digital platforms and tools in teaching, learning, and assessment. You contribute to ensuring our learning platforms are consistent, accessible, and user-friendly for students, while supporting the embedding of appropriate learning technologies within the curriculum.

You will also assist in gathering user feedback, developing guidance materials, and supporting the rollout of digital tools and initiatives aligned to institutional priorities. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in digital learning, user experience, and emerging technologies such as AI-supported learning tools.

This 12-month role is designed as a full-time developmental role, suitable for a recent University of Derby graduate or current student on a placement year. It provides structured, hands-on experience in digital learning delivery and support, with increasing autonomy and responsibility over the course of the contract.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support the Digital Learning Baseline Assurance process by reviewing digital learning materials, checking for consistency, accessibility, and compliance with institutional standards.

2. Test the student user experience across desktop and mobile, providing clear feedback on navigation, layout, functionality, and overall usability.

3. Evaluate and document the Digital Learning Ecosystem mobile experience, including Blackboard, apps, and integrated tools, identifying improvements and reporting issues.

4. Assist with the development and testing of AI Agents, including prompt creation, workflow design, and quality assurance.

5. Design, review, and update online guides for staff and students to support digital learning tools, ensuring they are clear, accessible, and user-friendly.

6. Support academic staff with their digital teaching practice, offering guidance on using learning technologies effectively and consistently.

7. Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably requested by the Digital Learning and Online Content management team.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

· A degree or currently studying for a degree

Skills, knowledge & abilities

· An enthusiasm and knowledge of using technology in an educational setting.

· Comfortable using a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) e.g. Blackboard

· Ability to test digital tools and learning environments and provide clear, constructive feedback.

· Interest in AI tools, agents, or automation, including prompt writing or workflow testing.

· Ability to problem-solve minor technical issues or identify when to escalate them.
· Well-developed digital skills and strong digital literacy.
 
Personal Qualities
· Patient, flexible, and diplomatic approach with an ability to work towards tight deadlines.
· Excellent communicator, able to work with people with varying levels of technical knowledge and experience.
· Strong organisation skills with excellent attention to detail.

Desirable Criteria
 
Skills, knowledge & abilities
· Experience in digital learning, higher education delivery, or learning technologies.
· Awareness of accessibility principles and the clear, inclusive presentation of digital materials.
· Familiarity with a range of digital learning tools, such as Microsoft 365, screen-capture tools, quiz/assessment platforms, PebblePad, or media creation tools
· Experience creating or editing digital guides, FAQs, or tutorials.
