Working closely with Skills Librarians and other departments across the University the Skills Support Assistant Graduate Intern works to enhance the delivery and impact of the Library’s Skills Development Team. The postholder will contribute to a wide range of tasks that enhance the student experience, including peer support and resource training to digital content creation, event co-ordination, and data gathering to inform decision making.

The role will also support the University’s development of its academic delivery through enhancing support for students in the area of personal development & growth. This 12-month role is designed as a developmental role, providing structured, hands-on experience in skills delivery and support, with increasing autonomy and responsibility over the course of the contract.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Contribute towards the curation and creation of Develop@Derby content, including, but not limited to, online guides, workshops, videos, livestreams and podcasts, ensuring a particular focus on interactivity.

2. Utilising web technology, maintain a hub platform for relevant learning resources, ensuring an effective user experience.

3. Build positive and effective relationships with colleagues across the University, working collaboratively to resolve issues and complete tasks.

4. Bring a student perspective to considerations of the user journey through the Develop@Derby resources, ensuring that students can access the right resources at the right time.

5. Coordinate the promotion of relevant learning resources to students in a variety of formats, including online and in person.

6. Capture data and feedback in respect of relevant learning resources, in accordance with defined measures and benchmarks.

7. Maintain high-levels of accuracy in respect of data input.

8. Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs), produce basic reports to identify trends and inform service improvements.

9. Triage queries received via chat or email and provide referrals for enhanced academic or skills support.

10. Actively participate as a member of working groups and project teams across the Skills Development Team, to develop and implement policies and procedures, contribute towards decision-making, resolve issues and implement assigned activity.

11. Assist with University events including Open Days, Clearing, Fresher’s Fair, and Develop@Derby activities.

12. Help manage school visits and tours.

13. Create social media content and promotional materials to increase awareness and engagement.

14. Attend student representative meetings to advocate for Develop@Derby services.

15. Support the planning and delivery of student focus groups, create surveys/polls and collate feedback.

16. Actively promote and support inclusion through operational activities undertaken through the role.

17. Undertake personal and professional development in support of the role.

18. Be flexible with working pattern and in working at different University sites and supporting other library teams, as required.

19. Ensure compliance with relevant University policies and procedures.

Rate of Pay: £13.37 per hour
 
Working Hours:
37 hours per week

Length of Contract: 52 weeks

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

· A recent (2025/26) graduate of the University of Derby, or current student of the University of Derby completing a placement year.

Experience

· Experience of working in a customer service or office environment role.

· Experience of developing own skills for study and/or employability.

· Experience of producing online content.
