The Skills Support Assistant works to enhance the delivery and impact of the Library’s Skills Development Division. Working closely with Skills Librarians and professional services colleagues across the University, the postholder will contribute to a wide range of tasks that enhance the student experience, from peer support and resource training to digital content creation, event co-ordination, and data gathering to inform decision making. The role will also support the University’s development of its academic delivery through enhancing support for students in the area of personal development & growth.

This role offers a meaningful professional development opportunity, providing hands on experience with stakeholder communication, content production, digital platforms, project work, and data analysis.

Through contributing directly to the design, delivery and evaluation of the University’s Develop@Derby skills support offer, the Skills Support Assistant plays an important role in shaping accessible, engaging, and effective support for learners across the institution. Key Responsibilities

1. Peer Support & Guidance

· Signpost students to appropriate skills support, tools, and services. · Triage queries received via chat and email. · Provide referrals for enhanced academic or skills support.

2. Training & Resource Support

 · Support delivery of basic instruction on using digital tools and platforms that support academic and professional development. · Assist with student digital skills development.

3. Skills Delivery Support

 · Create and update online support materials (e.g., guides, videos, transcripts). · Support maintenance of the Develop@Derby website by updating content and fixing errors. · Prepare and organise workshop materials. · Contribute ideas and feedback to improve the skills offer from a student perspective.

4. Events & Communications Support

 · Assist with University events including Open Days, Fresher’s Fair, and Develop@Derby activities. · Help manage school visits and tours. · Create social media content and promotional materials to increase awareness and engagement. · Attend student representative meetings to advocate for Develop@Derby services.

5. Focus Groups & User Research

· Support planning and delivery of student focus groups.· Create surveys/polls and collate feedback. · Analyse qualitative data and report findings to project teams.

6. Data Collation & Analysis

  · Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs). · Produce basic reports and insights for management and project teams. · Explore reporting tools to identify trends and inform service improvements.

 
Candidate and Skills Requirements:

· Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

· Digital confidence across a range of platforms and tools.

· Ability to organise, prioritise and work independently.

· Creative approach to content creation and problem solving.

· Interest in supporting student learning and service improvement.

 
Other Information:
 
Rate of Pay : £13.37 per hour
 

Working Hours: 4 hours a day Monday – Friday. There are four available roles : 2x posts: 9am – 1pm, Monday – Friday and 2x posts: 1pm -5pm Monday - Friday

Length of Contract: 20 weeks

Proposed Start Date (dependent on Right to Work check completion date): 09/03/2026
