Two Research Assistants are required to assist with maintaining coral systems and assisting research students and academics primarily in the Aquatic Research facility (ARF) but also other aspects of microbiology and eDNA studies.
Main research assistance
- Maintaining coral and seagrass tanks and testing water quality in the ARF
- Microbiology and Molecular eDNA studies---Seagrass and Coral microbiomes
Additional Lab teaching/research support
- Microbiology. IS student support and associated research due to increase in student lab-based work and associated research across Environmental Sciences.
- Other duties as instructed by the senior Technician and Technical Team Leader.
Candidate and Skills Requirements:
- Punctual and trustworthy.
- As a Research Assistant, the candidates ideally have existing experience supporting research and working knowledge of the Aquatic Research facility.
- Skills will include assisting specific researchers studying Sea grass and Coral microbiomes and crossover research in Microbiology and eDNA molecular biology.
- Teaching support in labs and assisting the senior environmental technician in the area.
- This experience requires good knowledge of Health and Safety documentation and writing SOP’s.
Other Information:
Rate of Pay: £14.93 per hour
Working Hours: 10 hours per week (Sessions of 3hrs). Sept/October 2026-August 2027
Length of Contract: 11 months
